Church WithOut Walls, Inc. exists to share Love with the world! Church WOW offers worship celebrations in the places where people live, work, and play. This innovative ministry seeks to break down the walls that keep people from connecting with Godde and with one another.
Church WOW currently gathers regularly in a Mooresville bowling center, a Kannapolis mechanic’s shop, a Hickory-area Humane Society, and here in our online “WOW Now” chat room. Other locations include area restaurants and coffee shops, outdoor parks, nursing homes and hospitals, and neighborhood backyards. Worshippers come “as they are” – in casual attire ranging from jeans and boots to shorts and flip flops. Worship celebrations feature relevant messages, contemporary music, and creative multimedia.
In its extension division, “WOW2,” Church WithOut Walls also provides assistance to area churches who wish to enhance outreach ministries in their own congregations. Church WOW offers preaching events for congregations, consultation in evangelism for pastors, and training for church leaders.
Church WithOut Walls was founded in 2004 by the Reverend Dr. Cathy A. Cook upon her appointment as Conference General Evangelist for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. An ordained Elder, Cook serves as Director and Preacher for Church WOW. Cook is a recipient of the denomination’s Denman Evangelism Award and the Finch-Hunt Institute for Homiletical Studies’ Francis Asbury Preaching Award. She is a graduate of Drew University, Duke University, UNC-Charlotte and Pfeiffer College. A native of Cabarrus County, she currently resides in Concord with her husband, Kenneth Criffield, and daughter, Jessica.
